Free Winter Choral Concert on December 12 at Jehovah Lutheran Church
Jehovah Lutheran Church continues observance of its centennial year with a winter choral concert at 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the church (1566 Thomas Ave., St. Paul, MN).
Conductor Ben Wegner, a member of the congregation, will lead the University Singers, a chorus of 44 undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Minnesota. Piano accompanist is Chantalle Falconer, also a University graduate student.
Wegner was music director at Jehovah Lutheran from 2014-16 and led its annual summer Baroque worship service from 2013-2021. He is a candidate for a master’s degree in music at the University of Minnesota and at present serves as music director at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth.
Selections at the Jehovah Lutheran concert include “O Day Full of Grace” by F. Melius Christiansen, “Winter Breviary” by Reena Esmail, “The Lamb” by John Tavener, “Cum Sancto” by Hyo-won Woo, “Little Tree” by Steve Heitzig and “A Este Sol Peregrino” by Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco.
The concert is free and open to all. Donations are welcome.
Jehovah Lutheran, which started as congregation in 1923 with worship on the second floor of a Midway feed store, began a yearlong centennial celebration in October.
The next special centennial event will be Transfiguration Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, when the Rev. Robert J. Benke will preach. He served Jehovah Lutheran as Pastor from 2003-2015.
