"Take me out to the ball game..." with some T.P.?

Jehovah members joined other Lutherans at the Saints baseball game on Tuesday, June 15, for a fun time together AND
to replenish paper supplies for Second Harvest's Food Shelves.

Those attending were asked to bring some toilet paper or
other paper goods. Paper goods are not easily purchased by Second Harvest for
their large distribution network of food shelves in Minnesota, and there is
a demand for these items.

http://www.lwr.org/Haiti/ giving a touching message from
Psalms urging people to “Delay not” in helping. LWR is working in Haiti on a long term basis..

"Come Grow With Us"
Neighborhood Outreach Survey Update

A training session was held before the canvassing event.
|
Neighborhood
walkers concluded their day by praying for neighbors they had met who mentioned prayer requests to them. |
In May of 2009 members of Jehovah participated in a survey of the neighborhood and heard about several
issues of concern to residents. The top issues included the proposed closing of the Hamline Midway Library,
more public space available for community gatherings, crime prevention and increased youth programs.

On July 21 about 75
persons gathered for an indoor picnic at Jehovah Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
Despite rain the cooks held forth under a canopy outside grilling a steady supply of hot dogs and
hamburgers and sending to the buffet table and the the hungry participants inside.
The chips and watermelon rounded out each plate.
Spirit Freed band provided music, and Charlie Avoles welcomed neighborhood attendees and
introduced Councilman Russ Stark.
Councilman Stark answered questions for about twenty
minutes and fielded suggestions ranging from adding volunteers to
the Hamline-Midway library in order to keep it open to adding a fence behind
the basketball board in the Hamline-Midway park to keep the ball from going into the street.
Pastor Bob Benke worked through the questionnaire inviting comments and encouraging suggestions to
help Jehovah know what neighborhood needs are.
This community picnic was a follow up to the May Neighborhood Walk and the June Day Camp 4 Kids.
